Happy Birthday Sis!

Hope everyone is having a nice weekend. I have been enjoying the crisp, fall weather, especially knowing that this weekend it's going to creep back up into the 80s here in Myrtle Beach.
Quick update on my work. I finished chapter 14 and started on the next. Chapter 15 contains one of the four major action scenes in the book. It's probably the scene I would most enjoy seeing in a Lucy Clayfoot movie.
I have passed the 50,000 word mark, and I believe my book will top out somewhere near 65,000 or so, which is actually longer than most publishers prefer for mid-grade chapter books. I don't feel like there's a lot of empty filler, and each chapter leads logically into the next, so if I do need to pare the book down a few thousand words I'm not sure where those words will be cut from. I'm happy with the story. That's all I can really say on the matter. I love Lucy and I hope the readers will too.
I took a few days to build a website for my friend Mara Purnhagen, who is a fantastic author, and a good friend. Her first book, Tagged, will be available in book stores, Amazon.com, Borders.com and other locations on March 2010. After that she has a three book series that will be published over the course of one year; fall 2010 to fall 2011. I've read the first book in the series and loved it. There are still a few things I need to add to her site, such as the cover art for Tagged, but I should get it from the publisher in the next couple of days and I'll finish my work for her. In the meantime you can go to her site by clicking here.

Today is my sister Suzanne's birthday. I've mentioned her here on my blog before, but since it's her birthday I see no harm in promoting her work again.

She has been a great motivational force as I've worked on my book - Suzanne gets very excited when people talk about fulfilling their dreams. No one can say she hasn't done a great job fulfilling her own, and so far she's lead a spectacular life, often visiting the far reaches of the globe. Happy Birthday Suzanne! I'm very proud of you!

Below are some pics from her recent (July) trip to Mongolia where she lived with reindeer herders for a month.
